PoroGen Corporation is a leader in development of high temperature porous polymeric materials.

PoroGen’s Proprietary PEEK-SEP™ Membrane Technology

Separation SystemPoroGen’s technology is based on melt extruded porous poly (ether ether ketone), PEEK, membranes. PoroGen products are made from VICTREX® PEEK high performance polymers and are used in the most demanding separation applications. The VICTREX® PEEK polymer was chosen for its outstanding combination of high heat and chemical resistance. Membrane pore size and surface chemistry of each membrane product is tailored to meet a specific separation application need. For high precision separations composite membranes are manufactured by depositing an additional ultra-thin separation layer on top of the porous PEEK membrane. Composite membrane technology platform enables rapid commercialization of new applications by tailoring separation layer material characteristics towards the target application.

PEEK-SEP™ membranes offer the best overall property profile of any polymeric membrane on the market today-allowing it to perform in the most demanding environments. PEEK-SEP™ membranes can operate at temperatures as high as 200 ºC and are not affected by aggressive chemicals present in “real life” process streams. PoroGen membranes are inexpensive, yet sufficiently durable to be employed in industrial applications (high temperature gas separations, natural gas treatment, and aggressive solvent filtration) under operating conditions in which other polymeric membranes cannot be used.

PoroGen manufactures PEEK-SEP™ products in both flat sheet and hollow fiber configurations. The hollow fiber configuration (small diameter porous tubes) provides for optimal packaging configuration (high membrane area per unit volume) and for superior flow dynamics in a membrane device. The small footprint of the hollow fiber device is advantageous for separation applications where the space is limited.

PEEK-SEP™ membrane products include lab and commercial modules with active membrane area ranging from 10 to 2000 ft2 within a single cartridge. Membrane modules are packaged into skid-mounted systems to meet specific customer application requirements. PoroGen’s membrane technology is modular so that separation systems can be inexpensively expanded or modified to address changes in feed composition over the lifespan of a given source.
